Hello all,

Week three is now in the books and we are one week away from opening game.

As you may know, we will be addressing the field problem Monday during the day so we will be moving the Pee-Wee practice area over a bit while the hydro-seed takes. We greatly appreciate the cooperation from John and his team during this inconvenience. I have arranged it so our first couple weeks will be on the road to allow our (repaired) field surface to settle so we can be prepared for our home opener.

I have been trying to set up scrimmages for the last two weeks I can not seem to get all six of our teams set up this week. I assure you I have been on the phone and email every day trying to get it done. I will have some of the teams scrimmaging this week and I apologize if yours is not one of them. We are somewhat limited in who we can scrimmage. We try to set it up with teams that we will not be facing during the regular season and we try to keep the scrimmages reasonably close to Hudson. We can scrimmage teams outside the AYF but Pop Warner teams are not allowed to scrimmage our teams so this all combined makes it tough for us to set everyone up on a given day. Hopefully I can do a better job next season.

I have developed an “official” inclement weather procedure and will forward it to you within the next day or two. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion going forward.

I would like to, once more, briefly address the need for fundraising. I am well aware that it is expensive to enroll your child in football or cheer. Unless you are on the board of directors, you probably have no idea of how much time and money goes into fielding 6 football and 5 cheer teams. The cost of registration does not even come close to covering our expenses. Rather than raising the cost of registration, we offer fundraising options so you can help us to raise the additional money we need and get a little something extra for your efforts.

FYI: for those of you who think the majority of the money goes to football as opposed to cheer, I would like you to know that our cheer budget is actually higher than our football budget but we who run the program, do not view it as “cheer vs football”. We view the program as a whole and allocate the funds where they are most beneficial to the entire program.

This week should be very exciting as we prepare for opening game. Don’t forget to be at the field on Saturday as instructed for the state weigh in.

Good luck to all of you this week and GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely,

Jack Floyd

President - HLYFC

 Inclement Weather Practice Procedure

If a practice is to be cancelled due to weather, you will be contacted by your coach and informed ahead of time. If you have not been contacted, you should plan on arriving on time to practice as scheduled.

In the event that the weather conditions are unsettled during a practice, you must plan on staying on the premises during the entire practice in case we need to delay or cancel practice. The president (or vice president) will be on the field to monitor the weather. At the first sign of lightning the president will signal to the coaches to get the teams off the field. At this point, the players will be looking for temporary shelter. You will locate your child and proceed to your car, or the nearest safe place, and wait for further instruction. Do not leave the premises unless you are instructed to do so. Avoid sheds, small or open shelters, dugouts, fences or bleachers. Do not seek shelter under a tree during a lightning storm. Once the field is clear the president and available board members will discuss the potential for the storm passing and will decide how long to wait until further notice. There is no set timeline for how long to wait before canceling or resuming the practice. We understand this may be an inconvenience and we will try to make a timely decision but if we feel the storm will pass and leave us with a reasonable enough time to resume practice we will “wait it out” for as long as we feel is necessary.

It is extremely unlikely that practice will be interrupted for weather conditions other than lightning so if the weather forecast is for cold, rainy, icy or snowy conditions, please dress your child appropriately. Also, make sure your kids are well hydrated and well fed (but not overfed) for practice.

Note: If the ground or surface conditions become excessively slippery, the cheer teams may be asked to leave practice earlier than the football teams due to the fact that they do not wear protective gear or cleats.

Thank you

Jack Floyd

President - HLYFC
